Thank you for visiting the Korean society for clinical pharmacology and therapeutics (KSCPT).
Clinical pharmacology is the science of drugs with the added focus on the application of pharmacological principles of drugs in whole population to enhance the safety and efficacy of drug usage in the real world. It has been widely applied in many field of science, including medicine, pharmacy and biological medicine. Clinical pharmacology has a broad scope; drug use in specific population such as paediatrics, elderly, pregnant and patients with organ dysfunction, drug development and evaluation, pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacoepidemiology, and providing drug information and adverse drug effects.
KSCPT was founded in 1992. KSCPT acknowledged the importance of the field and pursued on building a foundation of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics in Korea. The society holds two annual meetings, symposium in the spring and an annual conference during the fall. Each year, various topics with marked importance regarding clinical pharmacology such as new drug development, clinical trials, optimal use of therapeutics and drug utilization review had been discussed. Also, KSCPT supported the field of pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenomics and population pharmacokinetics-pharmacodynamics. Since 2005, the society holds joint symposium with JSCPT every year. The society also had a joint meeting with United States in 2009 and strengthening our global network. KSCPT also co-operates with MFDS in giving advice regarding the creation and implementation of regulation guidelines. Since 2011, system of recognition started excellent trainings for clinical pharmacology professionals.
During this time, KSCPT has strived to improve our understanding and utilize the knowledge in clinical pharmacology. We believe that the role of the society was crucial to develop the utilization of clinical pharmacology to the global level, especially in clinical trials. The society will continue to work diligently and interact nationally and internationally to promote the use of clinical pharmacology both in practice and academic field.
Hyung-Keun Roh, President of KSCPT
